Tait Lake
Tait Lake is a lake located approx 8 minutes South of Bancroft in Dungannon Township. The lake is about 48 acres in size with a maximum depth of about 7 meters. Fish species include Large Mouth Bass, Small Mouth Bass and Northern Pike. Tait Lake has a limestone base giving it excellent water quality. There is a public beach and boat launch located on Bay Lake Road. Tait Lake is located near L’Amable Lake, Gould Lake and Stimears Lake, with easy access off Hwy 62.

To preserve the beauty and peacefulness of this area, only small motor or non-motorized water craft are permitted. … TAIT LAKE Boating enthusiasts will appreciate our cottage’s proximity to a larger lake that allows for large boats.

If you are an ATV enthusiast, then Bancroft is a destination you need to know about. Located in the Eastern Central part of Ontario, the little town of Bancroft is one of Canada’s finest outdoor playgrounds.

The Hastings Heritage Trail is the corridor that delivers it ALL for quad riders. It is a 156 km multi-use trail that follows an old abandoned railway line which starts in Glen Ross to the south and heads north to Lake St. Peter. This trail is part of the Eastern Ontario Trail Alliance (EOTA) that boasts a 700+ kilometer network of trails that offer an adventurous mix of terrain for ATV enthusiasts. Located on the southernmost tip of the Canadian Shield, ATV riders will be thrilled with the scenic ride they will experience as the trail system cuts through muddy wetlands, incredible forests, around lakes and over rolling farmlands. Checking the map you’ll see that the trail routes wind their way from Bancroft into all kinds of communities worthy of a stop and fully equipped to cater to your needs. From to fuel stops to restaurants, touring riders will be well taken care of. Bancroft is the perfect hub to get your ride started and has a by-law permitting ATVs on their roadways. You can choose to take an organized tour, or else head out on your own on marked trails, township maintained trails, forest access roads, the Hastings Heritage Trail and more.

Eagles Nest
A trip to Bancroft is not complete without a visit to the top of the Eagle’s Nest for a panoramic view of the York river Valley below.

High upon Bancrofts “Eagle’s Nest” you get a panoramic view of the York River Country side and the rolling hills sprawled along the horizon.

The view on top of the Eagle’s Nest is even more spectacular during the fall colors. Often in the winter Ice climbers can be seen scaling the ice that builds up on the face of the Eagle’s Nest as well as rock climbers in the summer.

Today the Eagle’s Nest is accessible by car. There is a place to park at the top of the steep road that winds its way up to the lookout. The “eagles nest” is a perfect location to have a family outing hiking the trails observing flora and fauna.
